Current ACRIA Studies

ADVENT Study
This study is a Phase III trial of crofelemer for the treatment of HIV-associated persistent diarrhea. Crofelemer is a compound purified from a Latin American plant species used by traditional healers to treat diarrhea. Following a 10 day screening period, qualifying participants will be randomized to receive either crofelemer or placebo for 31 days. Then all participants will receive crofelemer for 5 months.

Avandia and Serostim
This NIH-sponsored clinical trial will determine the individual and interacting effects of growth hormone (Serostim) and rosglitazone (Avandia) on body composition and insulin sensitivity. HIV-infected individuals with lipodystrophy and insulin resistance may be eligible for this study. Study participants will be randomized to receive 1 of 4 combinations of growth hormone, rosiglitazone and placebo for 12 weeks. Then all participants will receive open label low dose growth hormone and rosiglitazone for 12 more weeks.

IMPACT Study
This one-day clinical trial will investigate atazanavir (Reyataz) resistance in people on an antiretroviral regimen containing atazanavir with and without ritonavir (Norvir). This study will enroll qualified patients who are currently taking an antiretroviral medication regimen that includes atazanavir.

For more information on these clinical trials, contact Bryan Hogan at 212-924-3934 ext. 121.
